Hey dear visitors! I doubt this site has a lot of visitors, so I don’t know exactly if I reach anyone with this, but I’m sure there are still some people who might be interested: First of all, since I’m writing this in midst of the Corona-crisis, I hope you’re all well. Regarding the last post I made on this site, yeah, well, things didn’t turn out so well. Or maybe they did, but I’m just at a constant loss of time. The thing is, I’m currently working very hard for my PhD, so music seems to always take second place. I hope I would be finished by mid 2021 – but I’m unsure about that at the moment. Anyway, since I don’t have a lot of time of my hands, I won’t make any more long-winded promises, but I did in fact do some work. Since youtube seems to be a more reliable source of traffic, most of my tracks are published there first. Why not everything all at once? Because it’s such a time consuming task, preparing everything for youtube, for the homepage, for soundcloud, for soundclick, keep track of everything internally… so, yeah, what’s why there’s a constant mismatch between the number of tracks on the different plattforms. But actually I did a lot of composing in 2018 and 2019. But now comes the bitter pill: I lost most of my work during that timeframe due to a harddisk failture. I *did* make a backup (thank god!), but it wasn’t that up to date. I even tried sending the disk to professional data rescue companies, but nope, the harddrive was broken beyond any hope, so I decided to let them destroy it. My new plan is to do more backups, esp. regarding unfinished tracks: I’m currently doing an excel file of all my music tracks, even the unfinished-but-a-bit-longer tracks, which I render to wav and mp3 in the state that they are. Then I will back them up in the cloud. This way my projects might get lost again partically, but I hopefully will never lose entire (rendered) tracks again.
Also, I’m planning to get a new i9 with 128 gigs of RAM as my main workstation. I hope that the whole process of creating music in Cubase (and now Dorico as well) will me more streamlined. So yeah, that’s the state of things and despite of some of the setbacks, I’m full of optimism and hope! Let’s rock! \m/
