No generative AI was used for the creation of my tracks!
Why is some music protected ("All rights reserved") and can't be used in games/movies/etc.?
The reason for that is that some tracks were sold exclusively to a specific customer in the past so that I can’t grant the rights to use it to anybody else. This might also happen in the future, though I highly doubt this will be the case for a large number of tracks.
Also, the tracks in the WIP folder are usually protected, as I just want to show the progress of my writing here. If you would like to use a WIP-track just contact me via E-Mail and maybe I can finish the track soon.
Can you do commissioned work for free or for payment?
Keep in mind that composing isn’t my main job, I do this just as a hobby on the weekends. My regular job (scientist) also sometimes makes it impossible to work with tight deadlines.
That being said: If you are ok with this and also if are a serious game developer (aka having commercial released games before) / movie producer we can negotiate a fair reward for commissioned work.
If you’re an indie game oder mod dev, a movie producer, a audioplay producer or something along those lines with limited or no commercial interestes I might compose for free, depending on how much I like your project and the cooperation. It would be great to give me a little paypal donation, but that is completely optional. Please also read the next question.
I want you to write in a very specific style and I like to have a huge say in the creative process.
Usually I don’t take these kinds of work and if I do, these commissions are not for free. It’s ok and even good to have an idea about the style you would like the music to be. The thing is that I don’t enjoy every genre equally. Chances are if you don’t find a particular style/genre in my music catalogue, I don’t enjoy writing this kind of music very much. Some examples of stuff I’m not particulary fond of are: Minimal Techno, EDM, Hybrid and over the top ‘epic’ scores (like Hans Zimmer), Anime-style music and a few others. I do however like Golden Hollywood Scores (like Bernard Herrmann), 80s/90s style Orchestral Work (John Williams, Basil Poledouris, Jerry Goldsmith, etc.) and to a certain extent 8bit stuff, esp. C64/SID stuff. There chances are higher for me to take up a commission if you’re going for these orchestral styles for sure. That being said, I might also consider other styles as long as I love your project. So just hit me up with an E-Mail.
I usually really don’t like to do a lot of revisions when working for free. I might do one or two at max after feedback, but I kind of don’t like to go through a lot of rework when composing after the fact. I’m well aware that this isn’t how it’s done in the industry, then again, I do this for the most part purely as a hobby. If I work on a budget things are a bit different – to which amount depends on the compensation.
Why are you releasing your work for free?
Simply put, I have a day-job I love and I do this just as a passion project. And instead to have all music locked away, I decided that everybody should benefit from this. I imagine it’s also good marketing.
